John Tomlinson on the Kupfer Ring in Bayreuth
Stage director Harry Kupfer teamed up with conductor Daniel Barenboim to produce a first class, thought-provocative and very moving version of Der Ring des Nibelungen in Bayreuth.
The interaction between the characters are superbly worked out to add psychological depth and produce a drama about survival in an age of anxiety and terror.
The singers are generally very strong. John Tomlinson as Wotan leads a team of excellent singer-actors like Anne Evans (Brünnhilde), Siegfried Jerusalem (Siegfried), Günter von Kannen (Alberich), Graham Clark (Loge and Mime), Poul Elming (Siegmund), Nadine Secunde (Sieglinde), Philip Kang (Fafner and Hagen) and Waltraud Meier (Waltraute in Götterdämmerung).

Anne Evans as Brünnhilde and Siegfried Jerusalem as Siegfried in Siegfried.
