Awards and nominations
Shining Through won 3 Golden Raspberry Awards, often referred to as Razzie Awards (1993):
- Worst Actress: Melanie Griffith
- Worst Director: David Seltzer
- Worst Picture: Howard Rosenman, Carol Baum
Shining Through was also nominated for 2 Golden Raspberry Awards:
- Worst Actor: Michael Douglas
This nomination was very unfair, as Michael Douglas had to compete with Sylvester Stallone, who won the Award for his acting in Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. - Worst Screenplay: David Seltzer
The Golden Raspberry Awards, frequently called the Razzies, were created by John Wilson in 1980 (and first awarded in 1981), intended to counterpoint the Academy Awards by dishonoring (or honoring) the worst acting, screenwriting, songwriting, directing, and films that the film industry had to offer. The term raspberry is used in its irreverent sense, as in "blowing a raspberry."
