Carlos Kleiber

Carlos Kleiber, son of conductor Erich Kleiber, conducted Tristan und Isolde three consecutive years in Bayreuth (1974-76).

Kleiber later recorded Tristan und Isolde for Deutsche Grammophon in 1982.

Carlos Kleiber is considered to be one of the greatest conductors of his generation. He appeared regularly with Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, but withdrew from concert life in 1990. Nevertheless he led the New Year's Concert of the Wiener Philharmoniker in 1992 (as he did 1989).
