Made in the small German town Weimar, with a population of only 70.000, a new Ring has entered the DVD / Blu-ray market. Local forces, a new great Brünnhilde (Catherine Foster) and numerous exciting ideas from director Michael Schulz make this a most welcome addition to any Wagnerian's collection.

The approach is more visually homogenous than its competitors (Copenhagen Ring and Stuttgart Ring), but not less inventive. It is marked by very good video filming and editing. It lacks the wonderful energy of the Copenhagen Ring, and seldom can the singers match the ones in Copenhagen. It is much less provoking than the Stuttgart and Copenhagen Ring, but the director's approach is very often stimulating.
